ROLLING STONES 40 Licks (Sony, 2002)
This collection covers most of their career starting with the 60’s hits
on disc one. This includes ‘Jumpin’ Jack Flash’, ‘The Last Time’, the
country rock of ‘Wild Horses’ and the oft covered ‘Ruby Tuesday’. Not a duff
track in sight really and even a mild Stones fan like myself will thoroughly
this first disc. The second disc takes in the 70’s and early 80’s hits with
standouts being ‘Angie’, ‘Start Me Up’. ‘Brown Sugar’ ‘Mixed Emotions’ and
‘Undercover of the Night’.
This is a straight hits set - no rare or unreleased material and it’s
aimed at the Christmas market obviously. For the casual Stones listener a
must but for the fan not essential as you’ll most probably have all these
tracks already!
