RAZAMANAZ Perris Records PER11729 (2003)
The band began back in 1993 and feature Britny Fox’s guitarist Michael
Kelly Smith, plus Cory Massi (vocals/guitar), Joe Bisbing (bass) and Steve
Attig (drums). The band recorded songs for Kiss and Paul Revere & the
Raiders tribute albums, which appear here along with a host of demos and
outakes. The sound of the band is prime time 80’s hard rock with a big nod
towards Aerosmith, Great White and Britny Fox, a big blues rock vibe runs
throughout the album.
To be honest the covers stand out the most, with the Kiss classic ‘King
Of The Night Time World’ given a real romping version. The band’s version of
Aerosmith’s ‘Seasons of Wither’ is worth buying the CD alone for – sheer
class. ‘Kicks’ is a jaunty pop rocker originally by Paul Revere & the
Raiders, a band who first started out in the 60’s. But it’s not all covers
with prime time bluesy rock in the shape of ‘In The Dust’, the instrumental
‘Call Of the Wild’ and ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Outlaw’.
Britny Fox fans will obviously want this release and if you loved the
80’s style blues rock of Great White and Tesla give this a try. The covers
on here are strong as well and help the listener get into the more
unfamiliar tracks on the album.
