QUIREBOYS ‘Well Oiled’ SPV00008683 (2004)

Spike and the crew are back with this new studio set, and another cracker it is.

The rough gravelly (think Dan McCafferty) vocals front the slick whiskey soaked sound well. ‘Good To See You’ features a touch of boogie, but is a little disjointed as an album opener, while ‘The Finer Stuff’ feaures a hint of AC/DC in places.

There’s the glam gloss, but underneath there’s all the swagger of the Rolling Stones (and probably the same alcohol content too), and in tracks like ‘Lorraine Lorraine’ a strong Rod Stewart influence - that’s Rod in his prime.

Nine new tracks - all worth a listen. There’s still the twin guitar and keyboards producing a full sound. A top new album.
