VARIOUS Influences and Connections Volume One - Mr Big FRCD175 Frontiers (2004)
A novel idea this as it is part tribute to a band - Mr Big and also a
nod to Mr Big’s own influences as well. All the members of Mr Big appear bar
vocalist Eric Martin. So who is guesting? Paul Rodgers sings his Free
classic ‘Mr Big’, backed by Mr Big! That’s drummer Pat Torpey, bassist Billy
Sheehan and guitarist Richie Kotzen. As you’d expect Paul Rodgers is on fine
form and ably backed by such a tight unit.
Heart’s Ann Wilson does a spendid version of ‘Promise Her The Moon’, with Toto’s Steve Lukather on guitar along
with House of Lords members Lanny Cordola and Chuck Wright. Glenn Hughes and
Joe Lynn Turner sing two apiece and Donnie Vie (Enuff Z Nuff) performs a
sublime version of ‘Green Tinted Sixties Mind’. Not overly keen on John
Waite singing ‘Wild World’ (the old Cat Stevens number covered by Mr Big) or
Keanu Reeves' band Dogstra doing ‘Shine’ but that’s about the only duffers
on here.
A worthy addition to any CD collection and some top draw performances on
here, notably Paul Rodgers and Glenn Hughes. As to who is next in this
series my vote goes for Van Halen and Whitesnake!
