MISTER KITE ‘Box Of Fear ’
(Lion Music LMC080) (2004)

Hot on the heels of the limited release EP, Mister Kite unleashes their second album. Mister Kite mix modern sounding rock whilst also taking classic rock like Sabbath. Hard to pigeonhole, perhaps Disturbed or Linkin Park (minus the rapping) would be a starting point.

‘Evil Bob’ veers from acoustic lament to grinding rock, whilst ‘I Know You Know’ adds effects and a chugging riff. ‘Do Your Worst’ is a real treat being a brooding number and not unlike latter day Depeche Mode! The title track is another brooding number and beautifully arranged. I am not the world’s biggest fan of bands like this but Mister Kite stand out because of the strong tunes and arrangements.

Definitely a grower and a departure for Lion Music in that it’s not a virtuoso guitarist or prog metal. Could be the right band at the right time.

***** Out of this world | **** Pretty damn fine |
*** OK, approach with caution unless you are a fan |
** Instant bargain bin fodder | * Ugly. Just ugly
