MILES ABOVE Move Or Be Moved Escape Music ESM111 (2005)
Second album by this young Canadian band (their debut 2003’s ‘Further’
was an enjoyable slice of modern rock) and again Corey MacFayden produces
(he of Brighton Rock fame - whatever happened to that great band?).
This album continues the catchy modern rock of the debut album although there are
more mid-paced numbers on display like ‘Close My Eyes’ and the blissful ‘Far
Away’. For rockier moments try ‘Lights Out’ (not the UFO classic!) and
opener ‘Faith Unkind’.
The band do stretch their wings musically especially on the album’s closing track ‘God Help Us’, a track that verges on pomp rock
with piano, strings and pipe band all thrown into the musical mix. Easily
one of the album’s stand out tracks and proves the band have more
talent/breadth than many of the modern rock bands out there.
Another enjoyable album and Miles Above are definitely a band worth
keeping an eye on in the future as they still have their classic album to
come.
