MICHAEL KATON MK Provogue (2006)
Michael Katon has been producing his own brand of guitar heavy blues rock since his debut album back in 1984 (I remember he even used to get reviewed by Kerrang! at one time). Hailing from Hell, Michigan Katon certainly knows how to get the heaviest and meanest blues riffs from a guitar coupled with his own growl like vocals.
There are some great examples of blues rock on here like the ZZ Top flavoured ‘Need It Awful Bad’ and the straight ahead blues boogie of ‘Motor Cycle Blues’. Katon’s playing switches with ease from a driving rhythm to some neat slow blues solos like on ‘In The Land Of Rock ‘n’ Roll’. Another good stomping track is ‘Whisky Hill’.
Perfect for those who enjoy the heavier end of the blues and like their boogie loud!
