MICHAEL BRUCE ‘Halo of Ice’ (NMC Music ) 2002
Michael Bruce was the guitarist in the original Alice Cooper band. This
CD was recorded live in Reykjavik, Iceland in 2001. The backing band is
made-up of Icelandic musicians Ingo Geirdal (guitar/vocals), Silli Geirdal
(bass/vocals) and Egill Rahsson (drums).
Kicking-off with ‘Under My Wheels’, it’s clear from the start that Bruce
has a very melodic voice and this puts a new shine on these old Alice Cooper
classics. The tracks are all older Alice Cooper, including ‘Second Coming’,
‘Desperado’ and ‘Be My Lover’ - a great version of this classic. The backing
band play very tightly and considering this was the first time they had
played with Bruce, you wouldn’t realise it. A rockin’ version of ‘I’m
Eighteen’ and the encore ‘Billion Dollar Babies’ bring the CD to a close.
An enjoyable live CD, with many Alice Cooper classics that have never
appeared on official CD releases before. Good production as well, no ’muddy’
live sounds on this CD! The songs also sound different as you don’t have
Alice’s sneer and growl, but it is refreshing.
