MEDICINE HAT Old Time Rock 'N' Roll Halo Records (2005)
Medicine Hat have been around for a while with a good reputation for live
shows and what’s more a rarity for a UK based band in that they play
southern rock!
Three tracks on here, two of which are live with ‘Old Time
Rock ‘N’ Roll’ kicking it all off (a track made famous by Bob Seger) and
it’s a fine version done by the band. The next two are live tracks, the
band’s own composition ‘Cold Hearted Woman’ that rocks like a good ‘un. Some
nice guitar breaks and vocalist Mark Jackson nails the song down nicely as
he has the power to rise above the loud music.
Closing the CD is a cover of Steve Earle’s ‘Copperhead Road’ and again it’s a strong, guitar led version.
Medicine Hat will appeal to fans of Skynrd, Molly Hatchett, Blackfoot and
the more rocking end of country like Steve Earle.
Good taster of the band’s talents and I am sure with more exposure,
particularly in the US, they could become an established favourite amongst
southern rock fans.
