MARC FERRARI ‘Lights, Camera, Action!’ (Z Records ZR1997079) (2003)
Marc Ferrari was the guitarist in two successful hard rock bands, Keel
and Cold Sweat, plus he also famously appears as the guitarist in ‘Wayne
World’s 2’! The CD is a collection of tunes that were recorded for film
soundtracks, video games and so on. There is a strong line-up of singers
including Autograph’s Steve Plunkett and Stan Bush.
The opening four songs all feature Bob Reynolds on vocals, who has style
similar to Joe Lynn Turner. The lyrics can be a bit corny, but the hooklines
and music are top notch, prime time melodic hard rock. Winger member Paul
Taylor also appears on all these tracks adding depth to Marc Ferrari’s
guitar runs. Pick of these tracks is ‘Run The Road’ and ‘Caution to the
Wind’, both featuring a driving riff and strong vocals from Bob Reynolds.
Steve Plunkett makes ‘Too Hot To Stop’ sound unsurprisingly like a prime
time Autograph song! ‘Capture the Dream’ is an AOR fans delight with Stan
Bush on lead vocals, very much like mid-tempo Survivor. Album closer is a
blues rock number ‘The Story of My Life’, with Jeff Wilson on vocals along
with some great harmonica playing from Gary Allegretto.
If you like hard rock from classic acts like Keel, Y&T, Autograph et al,
then this album will be right up your street! Well played and crafted
rockers, featuring some great guitar.
