JOHN YOUNG BAND Live at the Classic Rock Society 2003 Heritage Records (2006)
This CD is a good as any place to start when discovering the delights of John Young (Scorpions/Fish/Greenslade to name but a few) and his equally talented band.
Musically it veers from the AOR of ‘When I Was Young’ (this track could easily be a hit given daytime airplay) to the long progressive tones of ‘Unknown Soldier’, this allows guitarist Robin Boult to take the limelight backed by swathes of keys. ‘Just One Day’ and ‘significance’ highlight Young’s melodic vocals well, whilst the bombastic pomp of the instrumental ‘Kings’ rounds the set off nicely.
The sound quality is exemplary allowing all the instruments to be heard and of course the vocals. John Young is an artists that is worthy of further attention if you enjoy well played and well written melodic/AOR/progressive music.
