Solo outing for Wilco frontman...
Sunken Treasure follows Wilko's Jeff Tweedy on a solo tour of the Pacific Northwest and features performances and conversations recorded over 5 nights at Seattle's Moore Theatre, Portland's Crystal Ballroom, Eugene's' McDonald Theatre, Arcata's Humboldt State University and The Fillmore in San Francisco.
The tour was an acoustic one, and one that feels comfortable - like an old pair of slippers. Drawing from 200 or more songs, Tweedy played a different set every night with no particular set list in mind and feature music from his three bands - Wilco, Uncle Tupelo and Loose Fur.
Also included amongst the 22 tracks on offer is a previously unreleased track - The Thanks I Get. And Wilco percussionist Glenn Kotche and Guitarist Nels Cline make guest appearances on several songs.
It's an intimate affair and the Jeff's between track ‘chat' make's you feel like you're there. But there's a lot of it - you get the feeling Jeff could have stood and chatted all night without playing a note - and how that would stand up to repeated watches is debateable.
The DVD is structured with several songs from each gig, between gig road footage and more chat from Jeff. It's relaxed and intimate and ‘must buy' for anyone who attended the shows and any Jeff Tweedy fans. For others it's an interesting watch and a pleasant way to pass 94 minutes. And it's nice to see an artist in a different environment.
Intimately filmed and beautifully recorded Sunken Treasure tells it like it was.
