JACE The Mirror (2002)
‘The Mirror’ is a self-produced album by Jason Pawlak (recently featured
in Rising Stars). Here he plays keyboards, piano, bass, drums, acoustic
guitar and lead vocals. The other musicians on this CD are Dennis Pawlak
(guitar/vocals), Jan Pawlak (bass/vocals) and Trevor Pawlak (rhythm guitar).
‘This Time’ is a jangly pop rocker, nice uptempo beat and harmony vocal
chorus. The ballad ‘Your Love Tonight’ follows, with a piano intro leading
into a mellow ballad, with a great guitar solo similar to REO Speedwagon.
‘Nothing in the Way’ is another pop rocker with a catchy chorus - perfect
summer driving music! ‘Have It All’ starts with some very riffing and
drumming, the heaviest track on the album, reminding me of Y&T and
Autograph. ‘Midnight Drive’, a slower acoustic number that gradually builds
into a screaming like vocal climax at the chorus. Jason certainly can switch
vocal styles from a screamer to gentler, balladeer style. ‘Table for Two’,
sounds like a Rembrandts track - acoustic rock and a tale of wanting a
special love. The Richard Marx tinged ‘Angelina’ contains some great
harmony vocals on the song’s outro - a track Journey should try!
Overall, a very accomplished CD - for a self-produced CD the quality
remains, bar a few vocal parts which sound slightly out of sync. As this is
currently available free from Jason’s website you have nothing to lose
really! The musicianship is of a very high standard - particular mention to
the guitars and keyboards.
