HONEYMOON SUITE HMS Live Frontiers FRCD229 (2005)
This is the band’s live set from the Gods 2002, with founding members
Johnnie Dee and Derry Grehan joined by Peter Nunn (Gowan/Brighton Rock) on
keyboards, bassist Rob Laidlaw (Lee Aaron/Rik Emmett) and drummer Brett
Carrigan.
Now being honest and as a lover of all things melodic, I was never
a big fan of Honeymoon Suite so wasn’t exactly chomping at the bit to hear
this one! But I am glad I did as it contains some classy numbers and
reminded me a lot of one of my all time favourite bands Night Ranger (‘Touch
The Sun’ in particular).
The sound is first class and song highlights include the blissful ‘Feel It Again’ (again Night Ranger spring to mind), a
cool piano solo and ‘All Along You Knew’, although I was not so taken by the
mediocre ‘Wave Babies’.
If you were there then this is a great souvenir of the night and it’s a
good live album for all you melodic hard rock fans out there. There is also
a companion DVD to go with this CD release (shame they didn’t put it
together as one package).
