Forgettable chapter of top girl band who continue to improve with age.....
With the current band planning their own official DVD, they could probably do without the appearance of this December 1984 set, when the band expanded to a five piece; an ill fated era.
Joining mainstays Denise Dufort and guitarist Kim McAuliffe were bassist Gil Weston, guitarist Cris Bonacci and vocalist/keyboard player Jaki Bodimead. This line-up were still promoting the excellent Play Dirty album so as well as all the usual hits (Hit And Run and C’Mon Let’s Go to name but a couple) we also get Play Dirty and Running For Cover. And for the collector there’s a couple of tracks from the following year’s Running Wild album, an LP that got a limited US release and a quick withdrawal.
Excellent though that album is, it just wasn’t Girlschool, so the band don’t mention it now. More so it’s the live performances (if this is anything to go by) I’m sure the band would rather forget. Compared to the recent and very successful tours, this is just lame. Half hearted, weak, and like the haircuts, embarrassing.
An important part of the band’s history but unless you’re an absolute completist, avoid and save your money for more recent and vastly superior product.
