GEORGE LYNCH 'Furious George' Mascot Records M70992(2004)
Ex-Dokken guitarist George Lynch lets rip guitar wise on a set of varied
covers, helped by ex-MSG/Baton Rogue vocalist Kelly Keeling, ex-Racer X
drummer Jeff Martin, bassist Gunter Nezhoda and rhythm guitarist Kevin
Curry. For guitar fans there is much to enjoy as George Lynch retains the
original guitar solos but adds a modern touch here and there plus some of
his own stylings.
Of course with Kelly Keeling you’ve also got an accomplished vocalist (just check out ‘Space Station #5’, the old Montrose
classic - Sammy Hagar eat your heart out!). Guitar wise ‘You Shook Me’ shows
Lynch’s blues side and ‘Stormbringer’ will have all Deep Purple fans in a
frenzy.
A very enjoyable set of covers, which will please many and provides an
ample showcase for not only George Lynch’s talents but also Kelly Keeling.
Some may hanker after new material but these covers albums are an
interesting reference point for an artist’s influences and musical roots.
