FERREIRAFallen Heroes (Shire Records 2002)
Brazilian musician Marc Ferreira plays guitar and sings on this release
and is joined by Alex Ferreira on drums/vocals and Andy Guerra on
bass/vocals. This release is also one of the first on the new US based label
Shire Records and hopefully the quality will continue!
Opener ‘I’ll Be There’ drives along at a steady pace with nice vocal
harmonies on the choruses. Marc’s singing sounds like a cross between early
Bon Jovi and Nelson but he adds his own melodic style to the mix as well. In
fact fans of Nelson will love this album as it features the vocal
harmonizing of that band coupled with the acoustic touches as well.
‘Searching’ and the title track ‘Fallen Heroes ‘ best illustrate this.
Foot tapper ‘You Better Wake’ will have Def Leppard fans in a frenzy!
Crunching riff and Leppard-like harmonies. The acoustic ballad ‘Better Of
Without Me’ provides a welcome change of pace and features a subtle guitar
solo which adds to the song. The rest of the ban d deserve credit as well,
especially in the way they all combine in the harmony vocals - sheer bliss.
‘Hide Your Face’ changes tack being more bleak in style and with a grinding
heavy riff. The closing track, the instrumental ‘Jutro/Ap.361’ starts with a
telephone caller complaining about the noise made by the band! A track of
heavy guitars and drums that almost veers into prog rock territory.
Well played and crafted songs that will be enjoyed by fans of prime time melodic rock and AOR. An artist who deserves
more exposure and success - a very talented musician with a good ear for melody.
