Much Overlooked AOR project from original Maiden vocalist....
Bit of a cash in, this DVD, making the most of the for Iron Maiden singer’s credentials, and cheaply done too, with only a 1 hour running time and very little extras. That said, this 1984 gig will allow fans to see the short lived Di’Anno project on stage.
Most fans at this gig give a rather lame reaction, clearly expecting plenty of hard and raw Maiden material and not being familiar with Di’Anno’s first solo album, an American styled highly polished rock set, with keyboards. A far cry from anything he’s ever done before or since.
That said, it’s a tight and well performed set, the twin guitars producing a full sound, and the keyboards adding an extra dimension. Poor Paul does look like a fish out of water though, despite the excellent music.
Most of that ill fated (and now quite collectable) album is played, along with a couple of numbers from a second album that never appeared. Value there for the aficionado, and a much glossed over part of Maiden history but probably passable for all but the most ardent Maiden fan.
