Reggae master with bonus tracks...
It's seven years since Dennis Brown died, and this double pack DVD/CD 'Live in Montreux' finds him in the company of an excellent big band promoting his 1979 'Words of Wisdom' album.
A powerful singer and infectious performer Dennis takes the band through its paces on the opening horn led jam 'So Jah Say', and all the way through this excellent gig the band all get a turn to shine.
On 'Words of Wisdom' the piano and percussive elements come to the fore as Dennis delivers a characteristic impassioned vocal display. The road tested band stretch out and this number alone shows just why Brown was regarded as a burgeoning Reggae star at the time.
Perhaps only the lack of a couple of killer songs might have lifted him to further success although his take on 'Money in My Pocket', included here, did give him some commercial success.
Given Dennis's huge number of albums, die-hard fans will have most of the material here, but the mid price tag and the excellent band performance probably make this a worthwhile purchase. The additional audio disc includes an extra track, the live favourite, 'Wip The Jah, and a bonus track 'Money in My Pocket'.
