CHRIS NORMAN BAND One Acoustic Evening Angel Air SJPCD215 (2006)
Chris Norman was the lead singer with Smokie in the band’s 70’s and 80’s heyday.
The first CD is an acoustic concert recorded in Germany in 2004, a country where he has had a successful solo career since leaving Smokie back in 1985.
The set covers the obvious Smokie hits like ‘Living Next Door To Alice’ coupled with some choice covers like ‘Lucille’ and ‘Twist & Shout’. Good sound throughout and the backing band features ex-It Bites members Bob Dalton and John Beck.
The bonus CD is a live electric concert recorded in 2004 in Vienna with a more rock 'n' roll set including a cover of 'Summer of 69' and the Knack's 'My Sharona'.
The set closes with a rollicking version of Led Zep's ‘Rock 'n' Roll'.
A good, solid live set and one for the many Smokie fans out there, with not too much duplication of tracks on each CD as well.
