BLINDSIDE The Great Depression DRT (2005)
This Swedish band has already clocked-up 300,000 odd sales in the US alone! Have to confess not a name I knew until I listened to this new album. It will take some listens to get into and they are certainly not a classic ‘emo’ (emotional rock – think Jimmy Eat World) as some reviews I’ve read peg them as. There are hints of many musical styles in the mix including death metal styled ‘dark’ vocals!
‘This Is The Heart Attack’ fairly pummels the senses with its dark vocal screams and distorted guitars whilst ‘We’re All Going To Die’ mixes a bleak lyric with some fine guitars. ‘City Lights’ (this track reminds me of Collective Soul) could be a single and it is hard to see why a band so big in the US has so far failed to make much of an impression in the UK.
There is plenty going on musically and also lyrically, making for a rewarding and a times challenging listen. This album should certainly raise their profile here in the UK.
