This double-CD captures Asia in Japan, 1990. The packaging is appalling, giving no indication about the
recording or its origin. No doubt the Asia fan will have this information to hand, but for the casual listener
this is not the best introduction. There are arguably better versions available of the tracks on
offer here, although as a historical archive piece it is adequate. Sound quality is poor, suggesting
a third generation mixer desk copy or even an audience tape.
In 1990 Asia were replete with original members Geoff Downes, John Wetton and Carl Palmer but arguably
past their peak. Soon after Wetton and Palmer split leaving Downes to soldier on, teaming up
with John Payne for the album 'Aqua'. Fans and completists should investigate this, but the uninitiated would be better served with the various Best Of
collections.
