ARCTIC MONKEYS Astoria, London 6 October 2005
Monkey mania has finally hit London. So new, the audience still hasn’t mastered the chant.
Is it “Monkeys Monkeys”? Or “Arctic Arctic”? Really who cares? With a crowd so fired up, jostling and fighting even before support Milburn enter the stage, staying on your feet and not spilling your beer seems more important.
Entering stage to an applause bigger than Doherty’s debut, the Monkeys are unfazed.
The opening chords of ’Bet You Look Good’ ring out and the Astoria erupts. The floorboards are set alight by Sheffield’s newest heroes.
The Monkeys rip through a set that not only leaves you bruised and bleeding but begging for more.
The set closes with classic ‘A Certain Romance’. As the beered up Oasis fans chant “Monkeys” and the red jacket clad Libs fans chant “Arctic“. The night closes with everyone agreeing on one thing...Arctic Monkey are destined for great things.
