AMON AMARTH London Scala, 23 November 2006
Review by Amanda Hyne
AMON AMARTH are touring to promote recent release 'With Oden On Our Sides' so of course they played plenty of the new album such as 'Valhall Awaits Me', 'Gods Of War Arise' and 'Runes To My Memory'. As is also to be expected though, they also played older material too such as 'The Fate Of Norns' and 'An Ancient Sign Of Coming Storm' from the 'Fate Of Norns' album and 'The Last With Pagan Blood' from 'The Avenger'.
The band have been around for almost 15 years, and the band members have been playing for much longer so it’s not surprising that they put on a slick, professional show. However it doesn’t lack passion, and the crowd (including me) are soon swept up by their infectious energy and even when the sound system breaks down for a few minutes the crowd are happy to continue singing along until things are fixed.
The show may well have been a sell-out judging by the wall-to-wall people crammed into the venue, and it seemed that every one of those people was having fun.
Amon Amarth are a band who first came to my attention at Wacken - it was 2 in the morning, I was exhausted from a hot day in the sun and there are few bands that could have instilled such energy from me in those circumstances. They did two years ago, and they did again tonight.
