GOTTHARD - Win Swiss Music Award
GOTTHARD have won a Swiss Music Award for having released the Best Album in
Pop/Rock. The awards are considered to be the most important music price in
Switzerland. The award party took place on February 27th in Zurich.

status for the sales of 15.000 copies each in Finland. The gold discs, presented
to the band members at the Finnish Metal Expo in Helsinki on February 15, 2008,
are the first ever in the almost 18-year history of Amorphis.

BRAINSTORM tour starts today! In store announcement
German metal force BRAINSTORM is starting its European tour as of today in
Copenhagen. The fivepiece just released their current chart album 'Downburst'
and will play a wide selection of songs from their discography on this tour
including lots of new tunes. BRAINSTORM will be playing a minimum of 90 minutes
on each show (minimum being the operative word). Support comes from Pagan´s Mind

WARREL DANE - Announces solo album details; new song & cover artwork posted
online
After much anticipation, the stunning, inaugural solo effort, "Praises To The
War Machine", from Nevermore vocalist WARREL DANE will finally be released in
Europe in April 2008. With this effort one of metal's most defining and
revolutionary vocalists further hones his craft to perfection.
Dane, who first shattered the boundaries of conventionality with the legendary
Sanctuary and Nevermore, proves that he is one of metal's most diverse frontmen
with this solo effort as he unleashes a barrage of introspective and personal
lyrics that are heartfelt and extremely powerful. All of this emotion backed
with his soaring angelic and dynamic vocals provides all of the necessary
elements for a savagely captivating, melodic assault that quickly hooks you in.
Before beginning this new venture Dane went out and surrounded himself with some
of the best musicians that he could find. This search ultimately resulted in
landing the renowned Peter Wichers (ex-Soilwork) on guitars and bass, Dirk
Verbeuren (Soilwork) on drums and Matt Wicklund (ex-Himsa) on guitars. The
effort was also recorded and mixed by Wichers (co-producer Soilwork). As guest
musicians Jeff Loomis (Nevermore) and James Murphy (Obituary, Testament, etc.)
are featured on the album.

Dane further comments as to how this solo effort came about:
"Right around the time Nevermore was recording This Godless Endeavour I started
talking to Peter Wichers about maybe doing something together. I think we both
wanted to do something different and that's ultimately what got the ball
rolling. I had always wanted to work with a songwriter that had a more song
based approach rather than focusing on technical skills and Peter was exactly
that. We collaborated on almost everything and I wrote all the lyrics and
melodies. Peter had great ideas at times for harmonies, that's what a good
producer does, and I think he's really come into his own as a producer with this
record.
The purpose of doing this project was to step out of the confines of Nevermore
and focus on coming up with memorable songs instead of constructing songs that
showcased everyone's skills. The material is more straightforward than
Nevermore, but I don't know what to call it. I think my influences have really
played a part of the sound. I love old school goth and I love thrash metal, and
every other kind of metal, there's a little bit of all of that in the record."
"Praises To The War Machine" is an absolute must for all Nevermore fans and will
soon be hailed as Dane's most ambitious offering yet. Prepare yourself for the
sheer beauty and elegance that awaits. The album will be available on the

BIOMECHANICAL - NEW INTERVIEW ON ABOUT.COM
Chad Bowar from About.com's Metal pages recently had the opportunity to speak
with BIOMECHANICAL mastermind, John K about the hardships that come from being a
metal musician, wanting to represent your art on your terms and what exactly
makes a man like him tick.
John K on the arguments that led to the disintegration of the previous band
lineup during the making of CANNIBALISED:
"...it was suggested that the band should go and play without a singer,
something I knew wasn't professional unless you have the right amount of
instrumental tracks. As soon as I told them how I felt, things got really heavy.
They decided to vote out and play without a singer. I broke after that. I
basically had to let them know that they either respect the fact that I put
something like 95% of work for this band and allow me to make an executive
decision once in a while (especially when it comes down to my health). If they
couldn't respect that then good luck to them. They made up their minds about
three weeks after that and left BIOMECHANICAL."
John K on guesting on Bruce Dickinson's BBC radio show:
"It was incredible. I am a huge MAIDEN fan. I never had the chance to meet any
of them and meeting Bruce was awesome. I went there with our guitarist Chris Van
Hayden. Bruce was really cool with the band and he told me about his son and how
he is a BIOMECHANICAL fan. That was just surreal for me, dude. Here is the guy I
grew up with, listening to his music, knowing about my band! That was just
awesome. We went on to do the interview and halfway through Bruce said to Chris,
'So, Chris...I hear you are…were…a pilot?' and I was like 'Oh crap!' They
couldn't stop talking about damn airplanes, dude. It was hilarious. I was
pretending to understand."
John K on the concept behind CANNIBALISED:
"This album is talking about the human spiritual death and the decline of the
human society. It's dealing with the issue of spiritual atrophy. As technology
gets more advanced, the spirit gets more saturated with information, making any
attempt to think impossible. Drowned in mundane things we've been turned away
from the true state of our world and almost fed ignorance. And this can only
lead to spiritual atrophy."

TESATAMENT - New song on MySpace
The legendary Bay Area Thrash Metal heroes TESTAMENT have posted a new song,
entitled More Than Meets The Eye, taken from their forthcoming album The
Formation Of Damnation on their MySpace page. The album will be released on

The band has recorded it with producer Andy Sneap (MACHINE HEAD, EXODUS, ARCH
ENEMY, NEVERMORE) at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, California.
HAIL OF BULLETS in mixing mode
Hollands new Death Metal Gods HAIL OF BULLETS are currently in the process of
mixing their yet untitled debut album. Dan Swanö of Edge Of Sanity fame (a.o.)
is in charge and here´s a little update on things by drummer Ed Warby:
"Dan's working his ass off to deliver the most savage, massive and brutal mix
ever and we're almost there! The first mix was good but a bit too nice, the
second one nasty but not yet heavy enough, and late last night Dan dropped a
fu*ken bomb on us entitled "mix3". It's a scorcher. As with all mixes there's
still some details that need to be worked out, but when your own music starts
giving you goosebumps, you know things are on the right track! Every part I had
doubts about before now works like a perfect warmachine. Amazing what a change
in sound and/or level can do to an arrangement."

MAYLENE AND THE SONS OF DISASTER - New line up and new record
A message from DALLAS TAYLOR:
We have some news to announce. Maylene has recently undergone a line-up change.
Due to the rigors of the road Lee Turner, Scott Collum and Josh Williams are no
longer in the band. We remain good friends and wish them the best of luck and
continued success.
As for Maylene and the Sons of Disaster we are better than ever. We are excited
to announce our new members: Chad Huff, Kelly Scott Nunn and Matt Clark.
They have been long time friends of ours and some are former band-mates. You
might know them from their work in Underoath, Further Seems Forever, Sleeping By
the Riverside and Gods.
Josh Cornutt remains in the band but being a newlywed he is currently at home
spending time with his wife (and writing for our next record).
We have also started working on a new record and we are really excited by the
material the new guys are coming up with.
Thank all of you for all the support, and believe me nothing has changed in the
Maylene camp we are just growing a lot and you can expect us to be better than
ever.
HORSE THE BAND to release A NATURAL DEATH
Ferret Music Europe will release A NATURAL DEATH, the new album from HORSE THE
BAND on May 5th, 2008 in Europe.
The Los Angeles outfit will kick off a mammoth Earth tour in support of A
NATURAL DEATH in Anaheim, California on March 2nd and head to Australia, New
Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand, China, Singapore and Malaysia.
Their European leg begins on April 3rd in Ankara, Turkey and takes in Israel,
Germany, Italy, Slovenia, Austria, Croatia, Serbia, Greece, Macedonia, Romania,

Back story
HORSE the band is five stellar gods running from a haunted future they can't
possibly forget.
Formed on the mean streets of Los Angeles in 2027 A.D. the members of H the B
began to create their exotic sound to fight the past and recreate the future.
HORSE the band consists of Nathan the tormented poet beast on vocals, David the
hyper-intelligent lover on guitar, Erik the child-like wizard of keyboards,
young Christopher Prophet on drums, and Dash the gritty urban street-lord on
bass.
HORSE the band's music has won them many accolades for energy and originality.
Often referred to as 'nintendo-core' because of their spastic and glorious
brutality they prefer to strike out and create their own unique sounds each time
they manifest their powers.

IN STUDIO TO RECORD NEW ALBUM FOR FERRET MUSIC THIS FEB

Misery Signals has announced that they will be stepping into the studio this
week to begin the recording process for their third Ferret Music full length,
album title TBA. The band will be recording with Devin Townsend (Strapping Young
Lad, Darkest Hour, Soilwork), and are excited about working with him again,
tells bassist Kyle Johnson, "Devin has this awesome new set-up and new gear, so
that's exciting. Recording with him is a good experience, and we intend on using
him as producer as well. He always makes great contributions and suggestions to
the songs, and he is really understanding about what kind of sound we are going
for."
Townsend himself is gearing up for a momentous experience, saying that
"This is gonna be a record that brings the band to a new level. The rock
will continue to roll in a fastidious way." The band is well along in the
process of writing, tells Johnson, "Musically the songs are written, but
lyrically we are still writing.
Basically, we took both records and put them together, with a new sound mixed in
as well. This will be a little more straightforward than the last two albums,
and for the most part it's influenced by what we are into personally. It's
definitely more something that has parts that you can hold onto and that are
memorable."
This is the band's second album recorded with vocalist
Karl Shubach, and he is happy to have comfortably settled into his role. "I feel
like it's my band now, it's not Misery Signals plus Karl and I'm much more
comfortable being part of what we represent. I also feel like music is more of
my own, and I'm psyched about the new record, it's got a lot of elements that
weren't in last one, a lot of parts that are just heavier with a lot of off-time
polyrhythm like Meshuggah."
The new album is the follow up to 2006's highly successful sophomore effort
Mirrors, which Alternative Press listed in their 100 BANDS YOU NEED TO KNOW 2007
issue and Revolver as a BAND TO WATCH saying, "A relentlessly ambitious melodic,
metalcore band with a knack for exhausting members with their take-no-prisoners
touring schedule." Metal Edge chimed in recently with, "The album surpassed all
expectations."

is bigger and better than Of Malice and the Magnum Heart (itself one of my
favorite metalcore albums); the packaging, the production, the riffs, the

HSAHN'S ANGL ALBUM SET FOR RELEASE
London: Candlelight Records today confirms May 26th as the European release date
for angL, the second solo album from former Emperor vocalist/guitarist Ihsahn.
The album features nine new songs all written and performed by the highly
respected musician. The album features guest performances by drummer Asgeir
Mickelson, bassist Lars Koppang Norberg (both of the band Spiral Architect) and
Mikael Akerfeldt (Opeth).
Recorded and mixed by Ihsahn at Symphonique Studios in Notodden, Norway (the
studio owned by Ihsahn and partner Heidi Tveitan), additional work was completed
by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Katatonia, Amon Amarth) at Fascination Street Studios and
Borge Finnstad (Mayhem, Borknagar) at Toproom Studios.
Commenting about the
record's musical collaborations, "Asgeir (Mickelson) did such a great job on my
last album (The Adversary, Candlelight 2006), that while in preproduction for
angL I programmed a much more generic drum track to leave more creative license
for him. It was on Asgeir's recommendation that Lars (Koppang Norberg)
contribute to the album. They both recorded at Asgeir's studio (Multimono
Studios) and it came together nicely."
Working with Mikael (Akerfeldt), "Mikael and I go back as friends since the
early nineties. We met up when Emperor headlined Wacken in 2006 and had a great
time watching bands together. We talked then about doing something together at
some point and in spite of busy schedules on both sides this luckily came to
happen. Rough mixes of "Unhealer" with lyrics were sent to Mikael with the idea
for both clean and growl vocals. He worked on it during his off-time recording
the new Opeth album. I could not be any happier with the results."
Writing for angL began early in 2007 and picked up momentum after the Emperor US
performances early last summer. "I knew to a greater extent where I wanted to go
with this album, though I feel all albums are a kind of struggle to overcome.
Regardless of how many you make, it never gets any easier."
An aggressive
schedule to complete the album, in addition to recording projects for Hardingrock (in which Ihsahn also contributes) and Starofash (released February
26), Ihsahn completed album tracking in early December. With mixing and
mastering completed early this year, the musician is already starting promotion
with for the album; efforts that will take up much of his time over the coming
months leading up to album release.

Spellemann (Norwegian Grammy) Award Nominee Ihsahn (born Vegard Tveitan) began
playing music at a very early age. As a teenager, his friendship with Tomas
Haugen (a.k.a. Samoth) would trigger the start of his music career - one that to
date includes over fifty individual recordings, five high-profile Emperor
European tours (the band reaching US shores on only 3 occasions) and the respect
of fans and peers worldwide.

DAGOBA'S NEW ALBUM
Here's a promising piece of news from the DAGOBA camp! The band just issued the
following update:
"After several months of intensive work, all the songs for the new DAGOBA album
are written, and even the orchestrations and other electronic additions
finalized.
We are very satisfied and proud of the achieved work, and will work
once again with Tue Madsen, who affirmed he wants to make the monster sound as
it deserves to sound, which means VERY extreme! The new DAGOBA album will bear
the name "Face the Colossus", and the artwork will be the work of a graphic
originator for the "God of War II" video game."
THE OLD DEAD TREE
French goth metallers are happy to reveal the name of their new drummer, Raphaël
Antheaume (PENUMBRA). Raphaël has been playing with the band as temp drummer for
a few months now.
"Indeed, we are very happy to announce that after having worked with us as a
session musician for about six months now, Raphaël has decided to join THE OLD
DEAD TREE as a full time member!", the band comments. "The level of competition
and skills among the few drummers who remained at the top of the crop was
extremely high, but this guy logically outplayed everyone in the end. For those
who aren't familiar with him yet, Raphaël is the drummer of French Gothic Metal
band PENUMBRA. As a professional musician, he is also involved in others
projects and various music styles. To the drummers we met: again, we want to
thank you all for offering your services and wish you all the best for the
future!"
Now a "real" band again, THE OLD DEAD TREE will perform a special show in Paris,
Le Trabendo, on next April 3rd. You can expect some oldies and covers to be
played live among more traditional pieces. Swiss metallers SYBREED and
"newcomers" AABSINTHE will "start the fire" on that special night. See you

Alaskan metal heavyweights 36 Crazyfists will debut a brand-new song from their

this Summer. These will be Download (UK), Graspop (Belgium) and Rock Am Ring /
Rock Am Park (Germany).
DOWNLOAD takes place at Donington Park right next to East Midlands Airport.
Donington Park lies where the three counties of Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire
and Derbyshire meet and the festival takes place between the 13th and 15th of
June 2008.

Extensive Earth tour. European dates April to June 2008
Ferret Music Europe will release A NATURAL DEATH, the new album from HORSE THE
BAND on May 5th, 2008 in Europe.
The Los Angeles outfit will kick off a mammoth Earth tour in support of A
NATURAL DEATH in Anaheim, California on March 2nd and head to Australia, New
Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand, China, Singapore and Malaysia.

Back story
HORSE the band is five stellar gods running from a haunted future they can't
possibly forget.
Formed on the mean streets of Los Angeles in 2027 A.D. the members of H the B
began to create their exotic sound to fight the past and recreate the future.
HORSE the band consists of Nathan the tormented poet beast on vocals, David the
hyper-intelligent lover on guitar, Erik the child-like wizard of keyboards,
young Christopher Prophet on drums, and Dash the gritty urban street-lord on
bass.
HORSE the band's music has won them many accolades for energy and originality.
Often referred to as 'nintendo-core' because of their spastic and glorious
brutality they prefer to strike out and create their own unique sounds each time
they manifest their powers.
A NATURAL DEATH is released in Europe on Ferret Music on May 5th 2008
AFM Records news - March 2008 Update
Circle II Circle - US tour with Jon Oliva's Pain confirmed and Zak and Mitch to
perform solo at ProgPower US 2008.
Jon Oliva's Pain and Circle II Circle will team-up for the first leg of the
North American "Global Intrusions" tour this fall. This marks the first time
that Oliva (Jon Oliva's Pain, Savatage, Trans-Siberian Orchestra) Stevens
(Circle II Circle, ex-Savatage) have toured together since their days in
Savatage in 1999 and backs up the hugely successful tour Oliva has ready to go
this April / May in Europe, which sadly won't feature Stevens and Co. this time.
Stevens remarks, "It's always special to perform on the same bill with Jon,
especially in the States! Obviously Jon has been a huge influence on my musical
career and I remain one of his biggest fans. This tour will be a special event
for all our fans that have enjoyed our work throughout the Savatage years and
now into the new generation of Jon Oliva's Pain and Circle II Circle music."
AFM Records is set to release Jon Oliva's Pain's "Global Warning" on March 25th
(just avoiding Easter) & Circle II Circle's "Delusions of Grandeur" on April
25th.
In addition, Stevens and Mitch Stewart have also been invited to participate
solo and acoustic on ProgPower US 2008 in September. "Hey, everyone!! Join us on
the Wed. night for our special acoustic set. Just as Oliva did last year, the
set will be composed of songs from our entire career along with a few
surprises."
HEADHUNTER - New Album Details.
The new studio album from the original Headhunter will finally be released on
May 26th. Entitled "Parasite of Society" it was recorded by the original
Headhunter line up: Schmier - Bass, Vocals; Schmuddel - Guitar and Jörg Michael
- Drums (now in Saxon). The album conveys the charismatic sound the band is well
known for but will also contain two rip-roaring covers, "Rapid Fire" (Judas
Priest) and "18 And Life" (Skid Row). Schmier can be in the UK for interviews
later this month / early April but I need to know numbers asap please!!

LIQUIDO - "Narcotic" back in the single charts
German Alternative Pop band LIQUIDO entered the German single charts with their
smash hit "Narcotic" once again - ten years after its original release! Quite a
nice anniversary present. LIQUIDO will release a new album called "Zoomcraft" on
March 14 via Nuclear Blast Records! Expect nothing less but another masterpiece

SHAI HULUD to release "Misanthropy Pure"
SHAI HULUD are finally back with their new album "Misanthropy Pure"! Recorded at
Silver Bullet Media in CT and mixed by Eric Rachel at Trax East, "Misanthropy
Pure", the band's first offering in over 5 years, SHAI HULUD kicks it old
school, according to founding member Matt Fox. "It's faster, slower, more metal,
less metal, more rock, more progressive, and less progressive than anything
we've ever done."
Don't call it a comeback. It's not a reunion. It's an emergence from a
hibernation that included plenty of activity. SHAI HULUD have returned to the
forefront of a scene they helped create. While the current "metalcore" climate
has a blueprint that was co-authored by SHAI HULUD, the band isn't content to
rest on past triumphs.
When the metalcore sound was in its infancy, there were 4 bands that every band
was copying and those bands were Dillinger Escape Plan, Converge, Poison the
Well, and SHAI HULUD. Musically, the album combines hardcore, thrash, punk and
metal, and siphons influence from diverse sources, ranging from Metallica to
Burn to Testament to Dead Kennedy's to Circle Jerks.
"We were influenced by
Youth of Today and Testament from day one," Fox says proudly of the days before
the term "metalcore" even existed. He admits they up the ante, refusing to
adhere to trends or to cash in on some musical renaissance. "It's like that
movie Deep Blue Sea," Fox says. "The tagline on the DVD box is 'Bigger. Faster.
Smarter. Meaner.' That's how this record is. Is it the best thing we've ever
done? I don't know. We'll leave that to those who listen."
