HAMMERFALL - Swedish women rock and roll into finals
Sweden's women curlers had some rock solid support for Wednesday's
Olympic semi-final win over Norway -- from Swedish heavy metal band HAMMERFALL.
Sweden's telegenic quintet, favorites for the gold medal, thrilled the curling
world in January when they swapped brooms for air guitars to star in
HAMMERFALL's "Heart of Fire" music video.
Vice Eva Lund said the 2005 world and European champions were still drawing
power from their rock chick turn.
"We loved it and it gave us energy. The HAMMERFALL band was fantastic and
they are cheering for us and writing e-mails to us when we are here," she
said after Sweden beat Norway 5-4. In the video, the team arrives for a match
in a dingy rink to be confronted by their opponents: a wild-haired,
leather-clad heavy metal band with dubious curling skills.
The women sweep to victory -- aided by an on-ice drum kit -- but not before they
have morphed into leather and chain-clad singers themselves.

CATARACT – Studio update!
Hey y’all, we’re back from Denmark! We spent over two weeks up
there in Tues Antfarm Studio, recording the follow up to 'With Triumph Comes
Loss'. So, this newsletter is mainly going to be about what we did. We’ll also
collect all the pics we’ve made during our stay and put them in a gallery so
you can look at us working... or not. Most of them are pure nonsense actually.
Ok lets go then:
We traveled up through Friday and Saturday, taking a nap in Kassel, which is
half way up. After we arrived in the early afternoon and moving in our little
home for the next weeks, we set up the drumkit and the guitar amps, so we could
rehearse on Sunday (which is Tue’s day off).
Monday morning had us checking the drums, setting up the microphones and tuning
a bit here and there. And after lunchtime we started recording the first songs.
It’s pretty rough because once you’ve agreed on a good version, this will be
it, there’s not much you can change later on. The final hits were done on
Thursday morning, and Ricky was done working – the basis for eleven tracks was
done.
The rest of the day was used to check guitar sounds, recording a first track
and doing a rough mix to hear how it would sound. The actual recordings then
started on Friday, and proceeded pretty fast – Greg and Simon were done by
Tuesday, one day before we’d pick up Fedi from Aarhus Airport, so that left us
enough time to record the bass guitar on Wednesday.
We picked up Fedi from the airport (can you believe that both EasyJet to London
and Ryanair to Aarhus were actually on time?!!) on Wednesday evening, and after
the bass was finished on Thursday morning he had to start work too, while the
rest of us could kick back. Well actually no, Greg and Simon were still doing
overdubs and checked out some additional guitar stuff to the songs.
Saturday was the final day for all of us except Fedi who kept doing 2 – 3 songs
every day until Wednesday. We listened to all the tracks again, did some intros
and checked for mistakes or bad sounds... which is a pretty hard job when
you’ve been listening to the same tracks again and again for two weeks. And now
we’re waiting for the first mix by Mr Antfarm...
Some other stuff
The Blowout Sale is still going on. If you’re a small girl or a big guy you
definitely need to check it as the stocks are running out. Go to http://www.cataract.cc/shop.html and choose the blowout sale in the menu to see what’s
still left. The prices were lowered and we’re giving away free shirts with
every order over 30Euros or even more if you order more than 60Euros.
We’ve confirmed s-h-i-t-l-o-a-d-s of shows, and there’s a ton more coming up,
as we’re waiting for the confirmation of two tours. Rumors are wandering around
but as long as things are not confirmed I don’t want to be the one being the
leak. However, we will keep you posted on the webpage!
Among those shows is – by the way – the record release show on Wednesday, the
24th of may which is the day before ascension. It’s going to take place at
Abart in Zurich and we’ll tell you more about it in the next newsletter.
Alright, that’s it for this month...

Yahoo! Music Debuts The New LACUNA COIL Video For

Truth." The clip is featured on the site's homepage

Evolution soundtrack, where it appeared alongside such acclaimed artists as
Puscifer (Maynard Kennan's [Tool, A Perfect Circle] new project), Chester
Bennington (Linkin Park), Slipknot, My Chemical Romance, Atreyu and more. The

GOD FORBID Featured Guests On Headbangers Ball; Prepares
For U.S Tour With Children of Bodom
GOD FORBID will be featured guests on MTV2’s Headbangers Ball this
Saturday, Feb. 25th and look for the debut of their stunning, emotional epic video
for 'To The Fallen Hero' in that same episode. The clip, shot by the acclaimed
director Shane Drake (Fall Out Boy, Hawthorne Heights), is the group’s most
ambitious concept yet that will easily catch your attention and set itself
apart from the pack. Be sure to tune into MTV2 at 10PM EST/7PM PST in order to
check it out.
The group will then immediately proceed overseas for a sold-out
European tour with Trivium before heading back to the U.S. for their much
anticipated direct support tour alongside Children of Bodom this spring. They
just completed a highly successful run direct support to Anthrax in addition to
a headlining run with Sworn Enemy, Manntis and Cannae. Be sure to check the
tour section for their complete U.S. tour itinerary.
GOD FORBID’s critically acclaimed new album, IV: Constitution
of Treason, entered the Billboard Top 200 chart at #119 in its first week
of release, and it's the first time the group has ever appeared in the Top 200
charts. Produced by Jason Suecof (Trivium) and Eric Rachel (Atreyu, Dillinger
Escape Plan), the album -- a socially and politically charged vision of a
post-apocalyptic world -- further displays the incredible creativity and talent
of one of the most highly-respected bands in metal today.

MAROON Sign Worldwide Deal With Century Media Records; New
Album Set For An April 18th Release
The German powerhouse quintet MAROON have just completed a
worldwide deal with Century Media Records and will release their highly
anticipated new album, "When Worlds Collide", on April 18th.
The band added a whole new dimension and depth to the watered down metalcore
scene and quickly became one of Europe’s most crushing live acts. It’s ironic
that their buzz never made its way over to the U.S., as they helped pioneer the
genre that has been thriving in North American for the past few years. Prepare
yourself for the punishment that is about to ensue.
Taking hardcore ethics to a whole new level, MAROON are quickly
outplaying and outlasting their contemporaries around the globe. Formed in
early 1998, the vegan, straightedge five-piece is clearly showing their
dedication and no signs of slowing down. Their unique sound offers a
heavyweight mix of brutal hardcore molded with metal riffs, which infuses
strong and effective melodic elements. Their major influences are primarily
drawn from straightedge bands like Earth Crisis, while still remaining true to
their passion for old-school visionaries like At The Gates, The Haunted and
Iron Maiden.
Andre Moraweck (vocals) further describes the band’s excitement
over the new deal: 'Hey everybody, greetings from the snow mountains here in
Germany. We’ve just returned from a massive four-week European tour with the
almighty Obituary, and we’re happy to announce that we finally completed a
worldwide deal with Century Media Records. We are very excited to release our
new album, "When Worlds Collide", and this effort is the
next logical step for us as a band. It’s definitely our most aggressive
offering yet. We hope that all the fans in the U.S. join the army of darkness
and make this album’s campaign a great one.
'This album is just plain brutal and features more classic metal
influences. The disc also features guest appearances by Barney Greenway
(vocals) of Napalm Death, Roger Merit (vocals) of Agnostic Front and Mikkel
Sandager (vocals) of Mercenary. Our main goal this summer is to extensively
tour the U.S., so keep an eye out for the new album and upcoming shows in your
area. We hope to see you all very soon.'
The band's 2004 sophomore release, "Endorsed By
Hate", was a stunning portrayal of passion and anger that caught the
underground metal scene by storm, but with "When Worlds Collide"
the group are now out to prove that they are one of the genre’s elite.
