Raw acoustic guitars and genuine harmony vocals...Melbourne's finest!
There is so much pre packaged musical pulp being churned out these days that
it almost becomes a relief when a new young band comes along to focus on
being real and getting back to the basics of music - no gimmicks, no pre
tense! The name SQUARE ONE pretty much sums up this Melbourne band’s pop
sensibilities and honest to goodness approach with their first recordings
being nothing more than raw acoustic guitars and genuine harmony vocals
leaving their songs and performance to stand or fall.
And stand they did! So much so that they are the first unsigned Melbourne
band to have been picked up for heavy rotation on Fox-Fm Melbourne and still
being playlisted with their new electric demo track - the infectious new
recording "Lovestruck Melody". Feeding off a 90 percent approval rate on a
Fox listener poll, the unsigned band SQUARE ONE were then asked to play the
"Fox-FM Big M Beach Concert 2002." taking command of over 10,000 music fans
at the event alongside 'Sony Music' signed new artist 'Selwyn' and 'Aneiki'
(Roadshow), as well as holding good company with past event headliners
Killing Heidi, Deni Hines and Bardot.
Many times touted on air by Austereo radio professionals as a band that will
be signed any day now, SQUARE ONE are on the march forward with the vibe
growing everyday for this new band! Dj’s, program directors and industry
identities who have heard SQUARE ONE have said that commercial success for
this package is just a matter of time.
Recently winning the 2002 "Philips Five Minutes." unsigned band initiative
with their first up acoustic demo, one could well argue that this band is
definitely destined for big things. Over a four month period the band headed
the Australia wide showcase of new talent receiving a plethora of votes from
music industry identities, artistic peers and music fans alike earning them
a swag of prizes and showcase performances in front of various major record
companies at Fox Studios in Sydney.
Very much a new act made up of experienced band players who have done their
fair share of groundwork, be it in gritty pub bands thru to playing top 40
covers, SQUARE ONE’s special range of musical charm has been described as
everything from "power pop with huge vocal melodies" with "steel sharp
hooks" to "shimmering deep rock n' roll" that is "emotional and honest."
They've grown from learning their craft with grit and determination and
display their own unique style of street-smart songwriting. And it is the
songs that have stuck in people's heads - Songs that can’t be denied for
their own charasmatic depth, energy and pop savvy melodies. The truth is,
SQUARE ONE have something for everyone and it is time to unlock the barriers
to let this new band out on the world.
Get Back to SQUARE ONE! You'll find out quickly that it is actually quite
hip to be SQUARE!
