1. What are you currently up
to? |
I am in the studio recording my 8th solo CD. I collaborated with long
time friend and producer, Bob Held. I also wrote some stuff with Al
Petrelli who I used on "Nothing's Changed" and "Hurry Up and
Wait" and Chris Marksbury.
|
2. What has been the highlight(s) and lowpint(s) of your career?
|
There are too many highlights to name. I know that may sound like a
lame answer but it's an honest one. One of them was definitely being
asked to join Rainbow and then later,Deep Purple. Those moments
really stand out. Low points? I try and forget the low points.
|
3.
Who have been your main musical influences and why?
|
Jimi Hendrix, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin. Hendrix was
the biggest, definitely. I have also always admired Paul Rodgers.
|
4. How did the Hughes/Turner tour go and the album?
|
The tour was amazing. Go to my web site and you can read all about it.
The album did so well in both Japan and Europe that it is being released
here in the USA March 11th. The Live CD, "HTP Live in Tokyo" will be
out in the USA this summer. Both on Shrapnel Records. USA fans
will not have to pay import prices! My next CD will be a solo effort and is expected out this summer. It
will be released by Pony Canyon in Japan.

5.
Which have been the most challenging for you as a vocalist?
|
Songs that are very powerful can be a challenge but it's an enjoyable
challenge. Sometimes if I have to complete up a register that can be
challenging as well. It is much harder to sing live than in the
studio. In the studio you can re-do your mistake. You need more
strength and dexterity to sing live.
|
6. Do you ever see a day when Rainbow could reform?
You are famously known as one of the few people to get on well with
Ritchie Blackmore. What was the highlight of the Rainbow days?
|
Given the current situation that Ritchie is in and the fact that he
very much is committed to what he is doing, now, with Blackmore's
Night I do not see it happening in the near future.
Again, there are too many highlights to name. I would encourage my fans to check
out the interviews section at joelynnturner.com We have MANY MANY
interviews in the archives, in fact, so many that you could
spend several hours reading them all. Rainbow was a great experience
from beginning to end.
|
7. Which songs give you the most pleasure to sing live?
|
Some of the bigger songs are actually great because even though they
have had so much success and even though you might think I'd be tired
of them the acceptance I get from the audience drives me up onstage.
It's great when the audience knows the words to the songs and feel
at home with it.
|
8. Is there anything else you want to achieve in the music business?
|
Just to keep making quality music.
|
9. Outside of business, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?
|
Being with my family, doing things with my daughter and watching her
grow (all too fast!). I listen to a lot of contemporary music and
keep up with what's happening on the current scene. I also read...a LOT!
|
10. Message for your
fans... |
I thank each and every one of you for your continued support. I look
forward to seeing everyone on tour again later this year. Glenn and I
had a blast in Japan and Europe last year. It would also be nice to
work in some USA shows. Perhaps this will be the year! In the
meantime I love you all, peace and keep rockin!...JLT
