1. What are you currently up
to? |
I have been busy writing and recording some of my own music, I love
doing that the most. Also getting ready to start touring with Dokken
on the Scorpions/Whitesnake tour.
|
2. What has been the highlight(s) and lowpint(s) of your career?
|
still think the coolest time for me was when I first joined
Yngwie's band, I was working in L.A doing carpentry and playing in
bands every night, then all of the sudden I was in Japan playing at
the Budokan! It was just a really exciting time.
Lowpoints?
hmmm,........well maybe during the time I was with M.S.G...there were
times when I went for a long time sitting around waiting to tour or
make an album, that gets kinda boring! But I loved the band, we were
great! Shane the drummer and myself played some of our best playing
ever!
|
3.
Who have been your main musical influences and why?
|
I started playing guitar because of Kiss, it was around 1978 I think,
I was also really into Rush, UFO Aerosmith and Yes...Chris Squire and
Geddy Lee were my favorite bass players, they still are!
|
4.
How are the plans/rehearsals going for Dokken's part on the
upcoming Whitesnake tour? Are you now a fully fledged member of
Dokken? What are Dokken's plans for the rest of 2003?
|
Well, we havent started rehearsing yet, we toured almost all of last
year so its pretty easy to get it together at this point. Dokken is
the band I am in, obviously not being in the band for twenty years
would mean that certain things would be different such as t-shirt
sales etc....but really its Don's band and I am ok with that.
|
5.
How did Jeff Pilson come to leave the band? Which band(s)
have you most enjoyed playing in and any bands you would love to work
with?
|
I really dont know why Jeff left? I guess he wasnt into it anymore
maybe? Who knows? After twenty years I am sure Breakin the Chains
gets kinda old!! I love playing with Dokken, the music is great and
its alot of fun, for a long time I started to feel I was getting
pigeonholed into being the "guitar hero's" bassist....but playing
with Dokken is what I am really into. As for bands I would love to
work with? Well, it would be nice to make tons of money! So anyone
who fits in that category would probably work! How about Aerosmith! I
could handle that!
|
6. You recently helped out with Firehouse. How did this come about
and how did the shows go?
|
Dokken toured with Firehouse on the Metal Edge tour last summer, so we
became good friends with Firehouse, their bass player had some
passport problems so they called me up to fill in for a bit. They are
great guys.
|
7. How did you get your first break in the music business? What
advice would you give to musicians starting out now?
|
Let's see, my first real kinda gig was with Guy-Mann Dude, he was
kinda like Joe Satriani meets Slayer! He was on MCA for a bit, we did
some touring and thats how I met Mike Terrana who was playing drums
for Yngwie Malmsteen. He told Yngwie about me, and one morning
Yngwie called me and said "Hello this is Yngwie J Malmsteen, your new
lord and master!" Its very funny but that is exactly what he said! I
was kinda half asleep, and said....uh....hmmm ok? sounds cool!
hahahaa!
|
8. Any tales from your days on the road with MSG and Dokken? Which
countries/venues do you enjoy playing the most?
|
Well I could write a book on Michael Schenker! And it would be a best
seller!! hahahaa, sorry Michael! I luv ya! I do! Japan is easily the
best place to play! luv it!
|
9. Outside of business, what do you enjoy doing in your free time?
|
I am always playing or writing music, pretty boring huh?
|
10. Message for your
fans... |
