RAINSTORM PROJECT Purple Eyes Whiteless Records (2007)

Rainstorm Project

Debut album from guitarist Thomas Phihale, who is sound guitarist, mixing melodic hard rock with a heavy Ritchie Blackmore influence.

Opener 'Pat The Cop' is a chunky rock number with a commercial edge, nod at Joe Lynn Turner. 'Standing Here' has a more uptempo catchy new wave/punk pop sound.

There are some power ballads here. 'Since You Been Gone' (not the Rainbow track) is a beautiful track with female vocals, and the guitar work is sublime.

'Living In Hell' is a dark heavy moody number, Enjoyable metal. Bassist Bob Curiano is ex Blackmore’s Night, and a cover of a BN track here fits in well.

Some great work across the range of Melodic Hard Rock, from dark doomy to upbeat and headbanging, ballads too.

***½
