CAST The BBC Sessions 2-CD (Universal) (2007)

Cast

Huge success in the 90s, top ten albums and singles, indie guitar pop/rock, a nod at Oasis (only less derivative or tuneless), a nod at the 80s Madchester indie scene. And here we get a two disc set of BBC sessions.

Disc 1 opens with 4 BBC Evening sessions from 1995, the acoustic 'Four Walls' a decent melody, the heavier 'Back Of My Mind' a nod at new wave.

There's even a hint of G n'R's Paradise City in 'Fine Time'. 'Follow Me Down' is a dark indie rocker with a distant hint of old Hawkwind.

Sessions for Mark Radclifffe (1995), Simon Mayo (1996) and Mary Anne Hobbs (1997) follow, including two versions of 'Alright'.

Two of the MAH tracks are repeated acoustically for Simon Mayo (1997), including 'Free Me', before we get 9 live tracks for Lamacq. The guitar intro to 'Company' hints at the original at the original Brit Pop of The Kinks. A good tight concert.

A good collection and introduction, and essential for fans.
