NAZARETH Bad Bad Boys - The Best of
Music Club MCDLX013 (68:29) (72:10) (2005)

One of Scotland’s finest and most underrated get yet another compilation. But if you haven’t got these classics on CD, it’s a fine and bullshit-free introduction (abeit the thin booklet).

Mixing their best known tracks with some other greats, the hits of Broken Down Angel and Love Hurts, the slide guitar of Bad Bad Boy, the rock’n’roll, metal and boogie, it’s all here. This Flight Tonight, Shanghai’d In Shanghai, tracks that many will recognise, there’s more that are equally worthy and essential listening.

Dan McCafferty’s gravely whiskey soaked vocals are unmistakable, as is the blues metal of Manny Charlton’s guitar. Even with the (minor) line-up changes of the 80s and 90s, the addition of extra guitars and keyboards, they still rocked better than most. Check out Boys In The Band, and Steamroller for proof. Now pass the Scotch and crank it up. P ALIGN=JUSTIFY> ****
