Ten Questions with...

GINGER

Next up is Ginger, singer/guitarist with the Wildhearts and Silver Ginger 5 (buy that CD - every home should have one!), a leading light on the UK rock scene.

1. What are you currently up to?

Waiting to record the new Silver Ginger 5 album, play the Bulldog Bash, and go to Japan soon with The Wildhearts. And slowly but surely getting Round Records off the ground.

2. Who were/are your influences?

My son, Jake.

3. Which band would you like to see reform?

KIX.

4. What is going on with the 'Monsters of Rock' tour? I see you are not playing this tour now. Some websites have also questioned whether Alice Cooper & Thunder qualify as 'Monsters of Rock'!

The agents/promoters involved in booking this tour, Stuart Galbraith/Clear Channel, don't take us seriously as a band, or me as an artist... apparently. Doesn't make a lot of sense why they wanted us on in the first place, but hey, that's rock n roll.

5. The 'Silver Ginger 5' album is a classic! Not a bad song but it is so hard to get hold of. Did the label go out of business? How about signing for Sanctuary, who seem to sign every band going at the moment!

I signed with Sanctuary and they couldn't get us off the ground. They're great people with lots of money, but strangely not much idea how to get new bands started. Reputation can only hype something. Experience in actually breaking new acts is essential.

6. How do you find time to write so many classic tunes? Have any ever been covered by other artists?

There's always time to pen a new ditty! I haven't had anything covered by another artist. Yet!

7. Who would you like to work with in the future (or would have liked to in regards to dead rock stars)?

I'd like to work with Steve Earle at some point in the future. I don't want to work with any dead rock stars, I find them too slow in the studio.

8. What do you think about the state of rock music at the moment? It seems classic rock/ 'hair' band music is big news again but only as a touring vehicle (eg all the classic rock bands touring the US - Styx, REO, Scorpions, Poison - but no new albums in many band's cases)?

I think Rock music is in a very healthy state, especially in Britain. There is enough talent in this country to make the international transfer into the super league. That is if the fossilized British music industry doesn't scupper their chances first.

9. What was the last thing you read?

I'm a magazine junkie so I constantly read magazine articles on anything and everything. The last book I read was "Iced" by Ray Shell, and I'm currently getting through Irvin Welsh's "Glue". I read a lot of horror review books too, and fanzines.

10. Message for your fans...

Nothing will stop us. They may try but they will only succeed in making us look even better when we finally get the breakthrough. We will be seeing you soon.
