Ten Questions with...

JOHNNY MONACO (ENUFF Z NUFF)

Johnny Monaco is the guitarist and now vocalist with Enuff Z Nuff, after Donnie Vie left just over a year ago. One of the better bands from the late 80's, Enuff Z Nuff survived the 90's and carry on strong today with their emphasis on bitter sweet rock tunes.

1. What are you currently up to?

I have recorded I just finished recording some of my stuff at home and I'm doing some west coast dates w/ EZN next week.

2. What has been the highlight(s) and low point(s) of your career to date?

Highlights would be getting to travel I guess, the low points would be everything else.

3. What are the plans for Enuff Z Nuff over the next year or so?

I'm thinking we'll do some more touring on our own and start to write songs for the next CD. And then possible a big summer tour with a few other bands.

4. Why do you think Enuff Z Nuff have survived so long when many other bands fell by the wayside, especially in the 90s?

I think it's a combination of good songs that are timeless and the ability to still be able to perform them great live. I think when EZN first came out ppl got a little taste for that whole pop/glam thing but it fell apart rather quick. So mabye they are still interested in that sound and they still come out cause those songs give them back a little of themselves from that time in their life.

5. Is Donnie Vie still in the band or has he left? How did last year's UK tour go with you in the lead vocal spot?

Donnie has put together another band and is doing his solo stuff and EZN tunes. He's not touring w/ us but he might be writing another CD w/ Chip. I thought the UK tour went good. We've been a 3-piece for a while now so I'm pretty used to it.

6. What inspired you to first take up the guitar? Who are you main influences?

I was into Elvis when I was 12. My influences constantly change. For guitar players I've gone through everyone that was popular at the time. Beatles, Jimmy Page, Nugent, Eddie, Randy Rhodes, Schenker, Uli Jon Roth, Holdsworth, Yngwie, Demartini, Lynch, Gilbert, Jason Becker, Gregg Howie, Scott Henderson, etc..

7. How do you approach songwriting and where do the ideas come from? Which song(s) are you most proud of and why?

I've approached it from all sides. Sometimes the hook is first, sometimes the beat, sometimes the verse lyric, etc. It depends on the type of tune. I do not write any of the EZN songs so I cant claim to be proud of any of them.

8. Is there anyone else you'd like to work with in the future?

Paris Hilton

9. What do you do in your spare time outside of music?

Worry.

10. Message for your fans...

Have you tried a Hawaiian style pizza? It's fantastic!
