WISHBONE ASH ‘Heritage (3 CD set)’ (NMC Music 2002)

I only have a promo of CD 2 of this box set, so I can’t comment fully on the whole box set. This compiles the two techno albums (that’s right - techno!) Wishbone Ash recorded in 1998, along with outakes and unreleased tracks. Highlights of this CD include ‘Transliteration’, a short track with sampling overload. ‘Monochrome’ has a driving dance beat with distorted vocals and overdubs. The whole CD has a very Orb like feel but at a faster pace.

If you have a broad and open mind try this, but be warned there is only sampled guitar on many tracks! A brave experiment from the veteran band.

***** Out of this world | **** Pretty damn fine |
*** OK, approach with caution unless you are a fan |
** Instant bargain bin fodder | * Ugly. Just ugly
