SWEET SYBIL Sweet Sybil Eonian Records (2010)

Sweet Sybil

Chicago based Sweet Sybil existed between 1988 and 1992 and back in the day played with the likes of Extreme, Enuff Z'Nuff, Alice In Chains and King's X. They actually remind me of another band that time forgot, Blackboard Jungle, but also a bit of L.A Guns, a little bit of Van Halen and maybe a hint of Motley Crue- there is also an English influence on the vocals that I just cannot put my finger on.

The band are now releasing this 9 track self-titled album, dedicated to the memory of drummer Randy Matthiesen, which includes a brand new acoustic track 'You & I'. Included on the album are 4 of the band's singles 'Remember When', '#69' (complete with Adam & The Ants style opening), 'Someone In Your Eyes'- not a ballad but definitely a love song, typical of the time, and 'Alone With You' which has an almost Enuff Z'Nuff feel to the vocals. Track 'Burning House' is another standout track that has a heavier riff, as is 'Downtown Suicide' which is heavily reminiscent of L.A Guns.

Sweet Sybil were getting airplay and had featured in European magazines as well as domestic ones and this CD is a great reminder of the band - with the 2009 track being a nice way to round things off.
