FOGHAT Live At The Blues Warehouse Varese Sarabande (USA Import) (2009)

Foghat

This 2007 radio show live was recorded live in the studio, and mixes classics new and old, and features the current line-up of the band.

Foghat were one of the biggest and most successful blues/rock/boogie bands around, hitting stadium status in the 70s. Now down to one original member in drummer Roger Earl, the band lost vocalist/guitarist ‘Lonesome' Dave Peverett to cancer and slide guitarist Rod ‘The Bottle' Price in a fall some years ago. That said, former Molly Hatchet guitarist Bryan Bassett does a fine job on slide, and Charlie Huhn is no mean singer / guitarist. Craig MacGregor, who has replaced original bassist Tony Stevens twice now, does an excellent job too.

The 8 tracks feature the classics 'Fool For The City', 'Slow Ride' and 'I Just Want To Make Love To You'. 'Drivin' Wheel' sounds good, and 'My Babe' is given a welcome airing. The highlight is the 10 minute jam of 'Chateau Lafitte '59 Boogie'. The music is great, classic Foghat, but there is a lack of atmosphere due to the live in the studio effect. The newer track 'Mumbo Jumbo' is good, but not in the same league as the others.

The set is bolstered with the DJ giving a brief band history (more of an idiot's guide) and he interviews each member of the band. Good stuff, but his drooling accent is a little annoying.

It's a nice set, good arrangements, with a couple of tracks adding Harmonica. I wouldn't list this as essential. It's not going to challenge Foghat Live or Live II by a long long way.
