RISE TO ADDICTION A New Shade Of Black For The Soul Mausoleum (2007)

Rise To Addiction

Centred round guitarists Steve Wray and John Slater (ex Blaze) this is a heavy straight down the line metal set. Modern, hard, aggressive, and not much in the way of bullshit.

A couple of times on 'Cold Season' the guitar strikes a nerve but otherwise it's a damn good number with riffs and more.

'Moth To The Flame' has minor alternative leanings; there's touches of melodic metal and brutal Metallica too. 'Fall As One' features uplifting doom metal riffs with some nice melodies in the otherwise coarse vocals.

Influxes of indie metal don't detract too much, there is an element of Sabbath for the 21st century here.

As it goes, pretty good. Grungy too.

***½
