VARIOUS ‘The Spirit Lives On - The Music Of Jimi Hendrix Revisited’
(Lion Music LMC096)(2004)

I’ve always been very wary of tribute albums; a way of releasing well known yet unlicensable music and, as in this case, getting a CD out under a big name but featuring a host of little known players who want the disc space. Cynical I know, but it’s how I feel.

‘Freedom’ by Sun Caged nods towards Nu Metal, while ‘Highway Chile’ by Cyril Achard is more funky. On the plus side, there is a range of styles, no-one trying to copy the song or arrangement note for note (people do - a pointless exercise), but some styles do meander too much.

There are contributions from Chris Poland, Greg Howe, even Regi Hendrix, cousin to the great man.

A mixed bag, depending on your take on these things. One for Hendrix nutters, really.
