URIAH HEEP Bird Of Prey - Best Of
Castle CMFVD1328 (2006)

Uriah Heep

Uriah Heep collections seem to be like buses in that there will be another one along shortly!

This re-released 'Best Of' first saw the light of day back in 1996 and focuses on the band's ouput up to the mid-70's. The usual suspects are here including 'Staelin', 'Gypsy' and 'July Morning' - a track that really shows Heep at their best with a slow build and the trademark Heep choir on backing vocals. As good as any selection of tracks from their earlier years.

The DVD is a concert recorded in 1986 at the Camden Palace when Pete Goalby was the vocalist along with Mick Box, Lee Kerslake, Trevor Bolder and John Sinclair (ex-Ozzy) on keys.

The setlist is biased towards the three albums that featured Goalby on lead vocals and pick of the bunch are 'The Other Side Of Midnight', 'Too Scared To Run' and the classic 'Easy Livin'. The extended workout on 'Rockarama' doesn't work very well and the crowd seem very subdued bar a few fans at the front really enjoying themselves.

A fitting snapshot of the band's line-up and sound at that time (a very underrated time IMHO with 'Head First' one of their best albums).

If you don't have a Heep collection you could do a lot worse than get this one.
