TONY LEVIN 'Prime Cuts'
Magna Carta MAX-1002-2 (2005)

Bassist and multi-instrumentalist extraordinaire Levin has made a name for himself in King Crimson and more other bands than most dare to name.

From the 'Musician’s Musican' end, he’s experimented in a lot of styles (some at the jazz rock, folk and ambient end of spectrums). Of the projects that have been released by Magna Carta (Liquid Tension Experiment, Magellan, Bozzio Levin Stevens et al), this is a fine compilation of his work.

With 4 of the 6 tracks a little either side of the 10 minute mark, you do need to be in the mood for both progressive and experimental, but it’s all great music. For a bonus, stick the CD in your computer and you get an extra track and a Tony Levin interview.

If you’re Levin inclined, this is a damn good place to start.
