TOMMY BOLIN Bolin Lemon CDLEM56 (45:06)

Guitarist Bolin found fame in the James Gang and Deep Purple as well as recording a couple of marvellous solo albums, all in just seven years. No longer with us, his legacy lives on, as this collection of demos and home recordings show.

Many tracks here will already be known to fans, as original versions of what would appear later on record.

The material is largely acoustic, in places jazzy too and shows Bolin’s guitar work and songwriting well. But the final versions are so much better, as you’d expect, making this for aficionados only. The hard to read sleevenotes (poor choice of typeface) and the fact it was released as Snapshot on Angel Air a few years ago make it less than essential.
