THE QUILL In Triumph SPV (2006)

This Swedish band have been around since the mid-90s' and this is their fifth album. Gone are the keyboards and instead you are in for an album that will delight lovers of those Sabbath riffs and the crunch of Led Zep.

One things for sure the Quill can pen a damn fine riff - 'Keep the Circle Whole' comes across as a less groove ridden Monster Magnet whilst 'Slave/Master' will have your air guitar in meltdown.

There is variety with 'Black' having an Eastern tinge to it - very Tea Party/Deep Purple but with the band's own twist.

Put simply if you love riff heavy 70's rock but with all the modern production this album will be right up your alley.

***½

Review by Jason Ritchie

***** Out of this world | **** Pretty damn fine |
*** OK, approach with caution unless you are a fan |
** Instant bargain bin fodder | * Ugly. Just ugly
