TEGAN AND SARA ‘So Jealous’ Sanctuary/Vapour VAPSP-89403-2
This female duo produce some good vocal harmonies to a strong yet light guitar pop set.
Mixing acoustic and electric guitar, it is in places intricate but never complicated. The sound is at the popular end of guitar based modern pop. Typically the drumming isn’t bad (unlike the White Stripes which really is) and it’s nice to be able to hear the quite good bass work in places, although it’s not that prominent.
And while the vocals work well, they’re not the strongest of voices.
The whole album makes for pleasant listening but it doesn’t stand out enough to really grab you. Some of the tunes are good but the arrangements make them kind of run into one another.
Probably good but really not something I’d ever listen out of choice.
