SOUTHSIDE JOHNNY & THE ASBURY JUKES Hearts Of Stone
BGO BGOCD689

Emerging in the wake of Bruce Springsteen, Southside Johnny achieved much success and, at times, an E Street Band sound. With producer Stevie Van Zandt also in Srpingsteen's band, the connection was cemented further.

Singer Johnny produces some fine if little dreary vocals - evidence of trying to hard to be a balladeer at times.

The big band sound (brass et al) often works, as do the searing guitar solos, but not enough to save the album completely. The Springsteen penned Hearts Of Stone is one of the weaker tracks here. Good but certainly not great.

*** OK, approach with caution unless you are a fan |
** Instant bargain bin fodder | * Ugly. Just ugly
