OMAR & THE HOWLERS ‘Boogie Man’ (RUF1093)(2003)

Omar & The Howlers

Omar Dykes is back with another solid record of blues rock. There are ten co-writes out of the eleven tracks featured on the album and guests include drummer Terry Bozzio (Frank Zappa/Jeff Beck) and the former Stevie Ray Vaughn & Double Trouble rhythm section of Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon.

As the album title suggests you get boogie and blues in big doses, with some cracking tunes and little over indulgence guitar wise. Pick of the crop has to be the driving title track, the political ‘White Crosses’ and ‘Shakin’. Omar Dykes has been recording and playing since the 70’s and certainly deserves a listen. A very solid album that is great for late night listening and of the highest calibre musicianship wise.
