NEIL YOUNG/Crazy Horse Rust Never Sleeps
Sanctuary Midline DVD (2005)
May the force be with you...

Neil Young

So hard to judge this fairly, with the opening ‘eternity’ is watching the stage being set up by these Jawas (you know those annoying little hooded creatures from Star Wars). Opener Sugar Mountain is a poor solo track, with guitar and harmonica, before the twin guitar rockers start, and although this comes over as a key performance, lapped up by the fans, the term overrated does spring to mind.

In places the vocals are weak, the guitarists preferring to face each other than the audience, and the bassist nodding as if in a world of his own. And backstage shots of these ‘Jawas’ while the band are playing are just irrelevant.

Some tracks here are thoroughly enjoyable, but in such a concert set up, if you’re not there immersed in the event, you’re probably glazed over by then.

That set, some extras, a booklet and a decent playing time make value for money, but of limited appeal.

**½
