MILBURN Lipstick Lickin CD single (2005)

A very young band from Sheffield (so young in fact that their lead singer was recently barred from singing at a gig as he was under age!) but whose sound belies their age as ‘Lipstick Lickin’ could easily be a track from the late 70’s/early 80’s.

We are talking a classy tune here in the fine tradition of the Undertones and unlike some of their contemporaries, they actually play guitar solos! The other track on here, ‘Cheshire Cat Smile’ is not quite as good lacking a killer touch. But overall a damn fine debut from a band who will only get batter with more gigs and years under their belts.

***½

***** Out of this world | **** Pretty damn fine |
*** OK, approach with caution unless you are a fan |
** Instant bargain bin fodder | * Ugly. Just ugly
