MIKE TERRANA ‘Man Of The World ’Lion Music LMC120 (2005)

Terrana is a drummer who’s played with Malmsteen, Macalpine and Axel Rudi Pell, and this is his second solo album. Nothing retentive, playing with a full band, abeit instrumentally, and there’s some decent tunes here. A mix of rhythms and some fluid guitar and keyboard playing, from hard to rock to jazz fusion and back again. Not too strenuous on the ears and not too heavy either.

I didn’t know what to make at first but I found this engrossing, enjoyable and enthralling. The guy’s taken a 'Let’s have some fun' approach in the same way Cozy Powell did on his solo albums, and although he’s not in Cozy’s league by a long shot, it’s a far better listen than most drummers’ solo outings.
