LOS PACAMINOS - The Borderline, London
28th March 2003

Los Pacaminos are a UK based Tex Mex band who feature amongst their ranks singer Paul Young (a very successful solo artist throughout the 80’s) and recent 10 Questions interviewee, guitarist Jamie Moses (Brian May/SAS Band/Pretenders/Bob Geldof etc). Playing to a sell out crowd, the seven-piece band just about fitted onto the tiny Borderline stage. I have never heard anything by the band before and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed the gig! The band play mainly original material, which has a very Ry Cooder/the Band slant in parts plus songs such as ‘Highway Patrol’ reminded me of early ZZ Top material. This was also a good chance for Jamie Moses to rock out a little on guitar. The whole band is very talented, with four of the band taking lead vocals on various songs. The instrumentals are also very strong and had many of the audience dancing away. Encore time saw ‘La Bamba’ getting an energetic airing. If the band play near you, go along for a very enjoyable evening and a chance to marvel at the guitar skills of Jamie Moses, one of the most underated guitarists in the UK at the moment.
